Jane grew up in Minneapolis and San Diego and graduated from Stanford University with a BA in Human Biology. While in college, she was president of Special Skaters (an ice skating program for children with disabilities), volunteered as a hospital bedside buddy and trained infant cuddler, and worked in an eating disorder research lab and on a public health program for Type II diabetes prevention. Jane was awarded the 2014 Andrea Naomi Lederman Fellowship to support her mixed-methods senior thesis focused on how secondary school students who manage chronic illnesses experience disruptions and re-entry in school. After graduation, she worked on a genome sequencing initiative as a research recruiter in inpatient and outpatient settings, and most recently on a team at the Stanford Prevention Research Center whose goal is to develop a measure of wellness and wellbeing. Jane is particularly interested in qualitative and community-based methods, and as a Hillman scholar hopes to study educational, social, and emotional experiences of managing illness in childhood.
