Claudia B. Maier, MSc, Dipl-Nursing

Dr. Claudia Maier is a postdoctoral researcher at the Technische Universität Berlin, leading the team “nursing and health workforce research” at the Department of Healthcare Management, and was a 2014–15 Harkness / B. Braun Fellow in Health Care Policy and Practice here at the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research. Maier is a senior fellow with the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies. Previously, Maier worked with the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, the European Commission DG Santé and the European Observatory on Health Systems and Policies.


Her research focuses on the nursing workforce and the wider health workforce internationally and in Germany, as well as health workforce performance, skill-mix, integrated care and health systems governance. Maier’s research has been published widely in peer-reviewed journals, she has authored the 2017 OECD report on nurses in advanced roles and is the editor or author of several books and policy briefs on skill-mix, Advanced Practice Nurses internationally, the health workforce, mobility of health professionals and health systems.
