Young Leaders for a Healthier Generation- HYPE Youth Summit

On October 17, 2017 Penn Nursing joined The Food Trust HYPE Youth Summit in supporting and engaging Philadelphia high school youth in becoming leaders for healthy change in their schools and communities.

The HYPE campaign (which stands for “Healthy You. Positive Energy”) supports youth councils in approximately 70 middle and high schools, all working to get their schools HYPE by improving access to healthy foods, decreasing the availability of unhealthy foods and increasing opportunities for physical activity.

As a part of the HYPE campaign, youth councils have the opportunity to attend the annual “Youth for Healthy Change” leadership summit. Students meet peers from other schools, participate in leadership development activities and create healthy action plans. Students are energized and engaged through music and dance to become HYPE leaders in their schools and participate in workshops to identify goals and steps to make their school environments healthier.
