Linda H. Aiken receives the Doctor Honoris Causa in a Moving Presentation at UVic-UCC, Barcelona

Aiken with the Dean of the Faculty of Health and Welfare, Paola GalbanyTwo hundred fifty people attended the investiture ceremony of Dr. Aiken, which began promptly at the Aula Magna of the University on May 29, 2017. As tradition dictates, the program began with the entrance of seventy UVic-UCC Doctors. The procession of health care professionals ceremoniously entered the room, each wearing the medal doctor of the University. During the event, the artist Marian Osona Dinarès delivered an original Caplletra commemorating her honorary degree. Finally, Emboirats UVic raised a pillar of honor to the new doctor.

Dr. Mireia Subirana Casacuberta, Director of Nursing and Health Sciences and Welfare delivered the Laudatio - a speech - to introduce the new doctor to the audience, “The work of Dr.  Aiken and her team exemplify that improving working conditions of nurses improves the quality of patients’ health,” said the Former Dean of the Faculty. In glowing terms she highlighted Aiken’s focus on modifying the organizational context of health institutions to promote best results. Subirana concluded by saying the honorary degree “is a recognition of all the UVic-UCC professió’” and how proud she is of the faculty of whom “demonstrate their commitment to supporting the advancement of nursing knowledge.”

Dr. Aiken was visibly moved in her acceptance speech in which she summarized the international research and the work of CHOPR.
