Janet Deatrick Receives 14th Annual Distinguished Researcher Award
The Fagin Award biannualy recognizes the best scholarly qualities that Dr. Fagin, the School’s third Dean, exemplified.
November 28, 2016On October 26th, in front of a packed auditorium, Janet A. Deatrick, PhD, RN, FAAN, Professor Emerita of Nursing and formerly the Shearer Endowed Term Chair in Healthy Community Practice and Director of the Center for Health Equity Research at Penn Nursing accepted the Claire M. Fagin Distinguished Researcher Award. With the well-known Sister Sledge and Jade song, We Are Family, illustrating her commitment to fellow nurses, colleagues, patients, and their families, Deatrick shared heartfelt memories of her time at Penn, stories that paid tribute to her great admiration of Claire Fagin, and the incredible research that earned her this recognition. Deatrick’s internationally renowned work is centered around the science of family care giving and how the use of innovative qualitative, quantitative, and mixed method approaches can be used to better understand how families integrate the care of youth who have serious chronic conditions.
The Fagin Award is given to a faculty member, or a graduate from the School’s doctoral program, who has made a distinguished contribution to nursing scholarship. Congratulations, Janet, on this well-deserved honor!
