Effects of Chronic Exercise on Heart Cells

Akinyemi Bajulaiye started building his career at the Laboratory of Innovative and Translational Nursing Research. The Penn alum, who has worked at the lab since his sophomore year, uses its leading-edge technologies to assist faculty with their work and to conduct his own research projects.

Following an independent study in the fall, Aki is in the midst of a semester-long project examining the effects of chronic exercise on heart cells. Coming to Penn with an interest in physiology, Aki considers the lab – led by highly regarded scientists – an integral part of his education. There, he works alongside nurse scientists, clinicians, epidemiologists, bioengineers, and statisticians.

“We have a convergence of disciplines bringing expertise and mentorship to the lab,” says Aki. “We all learn from and support each other.”
