Monica Harmon’s “Powerful Voice”

Senior Lecturer, Monica Harmon, MSN, MPH, BSN, has won the Powerful Voice Award from WOMEN’S WAY, which is the leading grant making, public education, and advocacy organization for women and girls in the Greater Philadelphia area.

The Powerful Voice Award recognizes inspirational women who make a positive and visionary impact in local communities as well as throughout the country.

Harmon, nominated by Penn Nursing Adjunct Assistant Professor Lucille Pilling, a former Powerful Voice Award winner, has volunteered in West Philadelphia with various initiatives including teaching cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid in the community, as well as, working with the Southeastern Pennsylvania Area Black Nurses Association.

Harmon calls this award “validation” for the work she does in the community. “It is in the community where you find the greatest struggles with the greatest opportunity to be a change agent without much resource than yourself and a willingness to work in partnership with those you assist,” she added.
