Pennsylvania Department of Health Internship for Andrew Thum

“My clinical nursing experience combined with my Penn education will allow me to assist state health experts to evaluate current Pennsylvania health policy and quality improvement initiatives.”

Andrew Thum, Nursing & Healthcare Administration and Health Law dual master’s degree student, has been selected to complete an internship with the Pennsylvania Department of Health (PADOH) this summer.

This internship examines the operations and outcomes specific to regulatory monitoring of over 700 of Pennsylvania’s long term care facilities.

Andrew’s work will provide the department with information on which to base process improvement initiatives related to monitoring nursing home quality and regulatory compliance. The outcomes will be incorporated into the Department’s quality monitoring and training program.

“As clinicians and administrators adapt to great changes in health care delivery, this PADOH internship presents me with the opportunity to realize the skills required to address current issues impacting patient care,” stated Andrew.
