CHOPR Researcher tells LDI gathering how to improve End-of-Life care

Assistant Professor and LDI Senior Fellow, Dr. Karen Lasater, told Penn Health Policy Retreat participants that only 15% of surveyed nurses rated their own hospital’s end-of-life care as “Excellent”

At the 2018 University of Pennsylvania Health Policy Retreat presentation, Lasater discussed the latest research aimed at identifying ways to improve end-of-life care for the elderly. She pointed out that even though older adults tend to say they prefer to avoid aggressive treatment as they approach the end of life, 50% of them end up in the emergency department in the last month of their life, with a third being admitted to an intensive care unit.
