How do I access the Horizon VDI from a non-Nursing desktop?

Open a web browser and navigate to this website: https://virtual.nursing.upenn.edu.  You will see two options: “Install VMware Horizon Client  & “VMware Horizon HTML Access ”  You can install the Horizon Client on your personal device by clicking the link and selecting the appropriate install for your Operating System from the list of installs.

You can click the link for HTML Access (access through a web browser) and it will bring you to a webpage with a login box. You log in with your nursing credentials using the format:

 pennkey@nursing.upenn.edu and your nursing password (NOT YOUR NURSING EMAIL PASSWORD)

How do I log into the Horizon Client? 
You log in with your nursing credentials using the format:

pennkey@nursing.upenn.edu and your nursing password (Users within the Nursing building using a school of nursing desktop, the client logs you on automatically)  

If the Horizon Client is located on the desktop, double click the icon and the application will open up and log in automatically.

If the Horizon Client is located on the taskbar, single click the icon and the application will open up and log in automatically.

If the Horizon Client is only located in the VMware folder within the Start Button, navigate to the Horizon Client, Start Menu -> All Programs -> VMware Folder and single click the application and it will open up and log in automatically.

***Note: Having the Horizon Client on the taskbar is the quickest way to access the client.  A  single click opens up the client right to the application.***

What is the name of the connection server?
The name of the connection server is: https://secure.desktop.upenn.edu. Type that then click “Connect”.
How do I know if my Operating System is supported?

To determine which operating system you have, please see navigation instructions for Windows and Mac below.  If you have any of these Operating Systems, the Horizon Client is supported on your device.

Windows = Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows 8.1, Windows 10

Windows 10 Tablet: Start button -> Right click “File Explorer” -> More -> Properties

MAC = Mac OS X Yosemite (10.10.x), Mac OS X El Capitan (10.11.x), Mac OS X Sierra (10.12.x)

Mac: Apple Symbol (top left corner) -> About This Mac

Where is the Horizon Client located on the Nursing Desktop computer?

The client can be found in 2 places:

 Nursing desktop users will find the Horizon Client Shortcut on their desktop.  The client can also be found within the Start Menu

 Windows 7 = Start Button -> All Programs -> VMware Folder

 Windows 10 = Start Button -> VMware Folder

Does the Horizon Client need to stay on the desktop?
No, the client can be removed from the desktop and pinned to the taskbar or pinned to the start menu.  It can also be removed from the desktop and only be accessed by navigating within the start menu to the VMware folder.
How do I pin the Horizon Client to the taskbar?
You can pin it to the Taskbar by right clicking the Horizon Client shortcut and selecting “Pin to Taskbar”.
How do I pin the Horizon Client to the start menu?
You can pin it to the Start Menu by right clicking the Horizon Client shortcut and selecting “Pin to Start Menu”.
