Policies Regarding Reproducing Center Material

Any reproduction of material in the collections of the Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing is at the discretion of the staff and is subject to the provisions of copyright law (Title 17 U.S.C.)  Fragile and damaged materials cannot be photocopied but may be photographed subject to the approval of the curator.

Paper Photocopies and Microfilm/Fiche Printouts: 

All photocopies are completed by Bates Center staff.

Microfilm/microfiche reader-printer printouts are also completed by Center staff.

The cost for photocopies and film/fiche printouts for onsite users is $.75/page.

No color photocopies are available.

Orders may be placed by mail, e-mail, or fax.  The cost is $.75/page (10-page minimum order).  Postage/handling is included in the cost of the order.   Payment must be received prior to shipment.   No credit card payments for copy orders are handled at the present time.   Please make checks payable to:  Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania.  Mail to:

Digital Reproductions:

Scans of photographic images in the Bates Center’s collection for which the Bates Center owns the rights are available for a $25.00 production fee per scan.  A quantity discount is available:   for all scans ordered after the first 10 ordered at the same time, the charge is $23.00/scan. 

When ordering scans of photographic images, please specify the following:

Tone: Black-and-white; Grayscale; or Color

Format: TIF; or JPEG

Resolution: Up to 600 dpi available. Please indicate preference.
