Frequently Asked Questions

What types of clinical experiences are offered in GNP Program?
Students in the GNP Program are involved in the clinical care of older adults once in the theory-clinical sequence of the program. The clinical sites are arranged and supervised by our faculty. Many of our Clinical Preceptors are graduates of the GNP Program working in collaborative practices with nurse practitioners and physicians in the Philadelphia and surrounding areas. Practices are in community-based settings, such as nursing homes, assisted living facilities, home care, clinics and offices.

Is it possible to work and go to school?
That depends on a lot of things, e.g., work schedule, personal responsibilities, and school schedule. We encourage full-time students to have a very flexible, light work schedule, especially once they are in the theory-clinical sequence of the program. Part-time students are able to spend more time in work responsibilities.

Does the GNP Program prepare you to work with younger adults?
Many of our students also complete the Adult Health Nurse Practitioner Program to broaden their scope of practice to work with younger adults in community settings, such as offices, home care, or sub-acute care units in a long-term care facility. Completion of both programs enables you to become dually certified in both Gerontology and Adult Health by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and eligible to apply for national certification in both specialties.
