Four
Eurasian Hospitals Receive "Journey to Excellence" Awards
The American
International Health Alliance (AIHA) is pleased to announce
that four Eurasian hospitals participating in its Nursing
Quality Improvement Program received "Journey to Excellence" Awards from
the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) during a series of
ceremonies held in the region in late September 2004.
This is the first
time ANCC has bestowed such an award on institutions in resource-limited
countries where English is not the primary language.
Dr. Linda Aiken,
coordinator of AIHA's Nursing Quality Improvement Program and director
of the University of Pennsylvania's Center
for Health Outcomes and Policy Research, says, "This project has successfully demonstrated that
the introduction of evidence-based nursing practice standards based on ANCC's
Magnet Recognition Program can substantially improve both the quality of
care and level of patient satisfaction in countries where the development
of professional nursing lags behind international norms."
Dr.
Linda Aiken is directing a project on international
nurse migration through AcademyHealth. The organization
recently received a grant from the Rockefeller
Foundation to hold a conference in Bellagio,
Italy in July 2005 focusing on 3 receiving countries
(US, Canada, UK) and 6 sending countries/regions
(Caribbean, Africa, Eastern Europe, Philippines,
India, China).
