Visiting Professorships - Penn Nursing Faculty Abroad
 
  Dr. Susan Gennaro has been Visiting Professor at the University of Basel's Institut fuer Pflegewissenschaft/Institute of Nursing Science (INS) from January - February 2005. She taught an interdisciplinary course to 14 students (3 public health students, 2 physicians, and 9 nurses). This doctoral-level course, designed to help students progress in their research trajectory, was entitled "Advanced Research Methodology."

Dr. Neville Strumpf is the first Grace Tien Visiting Professor in Nursing Studies at the University of Hong Kong, China.

Dr. Strumpf gave the inaugural lecture and presented another paper at the Seminar for Medical and Health Research Network.

  Sarah H Kagan, PhD, RN, has been Visiting Professor at the University of Hong Kong, China.

Dr. Kagan presented a keynote address to the Frontiers in Biomedical Research and lead a seminar which outlined current health care delivery and policy concerns.

  Barbara Medoff-Cooper, PhD, was named Visiting Professor at Hadassah Hebrew University, Jerusalem, Israel.

Dr. Medoff-Cooper and Dr. Anne Keanne participated in the annual review of the first integrated clinical masters nursing program in Israel.

  Barbara Medoff-Cooper, PhD, is also Visiting Professor at the Karolinska Institute, Stockholm, Sweden.

     
  Julie Fairman, PhD, was named Visiting Professor at Dublin University, Dublin, Ireland. Her research revolves around the history of 20th century health care issues that pervade contemporary nursing practice. Much of her recent work addresses the relationship between gender, nursing and technology, and the history of the nurse practitioner movement.

The Dean's International Scholar in Residence Award from the University of Pennsylvania recognizes an internationally known nurse researcher from outside the United States. Each scholar will spend one-week at the University of Pennsylvania to exchange ideas, hold seminars with students, discuss current research collaborations, explore potential collaborations, and consult with others in the University community.

  Dr. Naomi Seboni, University of Botswana, BOTSWANA, received the 2004-2005 Dean's International Scholar in Residence Award from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. Dr. Seboni is the Director of the WHO Collaborating Center for Nursing and Midwifery Development at the University of Botswana and is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Education. Previously, she served as the Head of the Department of Nursing. In addition, she is the President of the Botswana Family Welfare Association. Dr. Seboni is featured on the current cover of "Reflections on Nursing Leadership," Honor Society of Nursing, Sigma Theta Tau International.

Visiting Scholars are invited to come to come to Penn Nursing to exchange ideas at small colloquia, informal seminars, as well as to lecture to a broader University audience to promote awareness of various perspectives on global events, and to stimulate dialogue about critical issues in nursing around the world.

Dr. Sophia Siu-Chee Chan, head of the department of Nursing Studies, and Dr. Gabriel M. Leung of the University of Hong Kong visited Penn Nursing on Dr. Sophia Siu-Chee Chan, and Dr. Gabriel M. Leung, Clinical Assistant Professor in Public Health Medicine, both from the University of Hong Kong gave a lecture entitled, "SARS: Intersection of Public Health, Epidemiology and Clinical Nursing" at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

Dr. Keiko Kishi, Okayama, Japan, is making a 15-part television series on nursing for the University of Air. The Penn School of Nursing is the location of one of the sessions.
(Dr. Kishi, GrN'81, notes that she was the first graduate of the doctoral program in nursing. )

Alexander Bischoff, PhD, MCommH, RN, University of Basel, analyzes interpreted doctor-patient communication from the perspectives of linguistics and health sciences. His research focus is on the role of interpreters in communication between nurses and refugees.
