Penn Nursing's Leadership Role
in Establishing Global Collaborations and Partnerships

Penn Nursing has a rich tradition of forging partnerships for global initiatives. Initially designated in 1988, the School of Nursing was the first school at the University of Pennsylvania, and one of the first schools of nursing in the world, to be named a World Health Organization Collaborating Center.

Under the leadership of Dean Afaf I. Meleis the school is continuing its global commitment towards internationalization by using the school's preeminence to promote nursing collaboration around the world.

"I dream that one day there will be global nursing collaborations where nurses from many countries gather in one city, making world headlines with one voice. I dream of collective scholarship producing models of care for nurses worldwide to provide a rationale for global health policy. We must unite to make this dream a reality. Uniting to develop policy requires speaking in one voice, asking and answering critical questions about patient care."

Dean Afaf Meleis

The new website of the Office of International Programs (OIP) serves as a clearing house for Penn Nursing's ever increasing global leadership presence by enhancing the visibility of its international activities.
