Welcome
to the Department of Family and Community Health

The byline of the Family & Community Health Department captures the philosophy of this department beautifully: One person, one family, one community. This philosophy illustrates the passion felt by these advocates for vulnerable populations of all ages. The faculty of the Family & Community Health Department focus on decreasing health disparities in their research, education and practice.

Penn Nursing’s students are mentored by some of the nation’s best researchers and clinical leaders in community and primary care, maternal-infant health and psychiatric mental health nursing.

The Family & Community Health Department investigates, teaches and translates into practice behavioral models and interventions to change the behaviors of those at risk for disease and, thus, directly improve the health of those with chronic conditions. Health disparities, nursing history, a lifespan view and scholarship of practice are hallmarks of its faculty.
