Research
Dr. Meghani's current research focuses on racial and ethnic disparities in cancer pain treatment. More specifically, her current work includes an exploration of the patient-level factors affecting negotiation of treatment for cancer pain among African Americans. Through her research, she has sought to identify the factors that shape analgesic preference for cancer pain and analgesia-related belief structures among subsets of minorities. In addition, Dr. Meghani's research interests include understanding inequities in opioid availability for pain relief between developed and developing nations; a component of this work includes efforts to understand the policy-level impediments underlying these international disparities.
Dr. Meghani has received competitive research funding from the Center for Health Equity Research and Promotion, the Oncology Nursing Society Foundation/Purdue Pharma, and Sigma Theta Tau Xi Chapter. She was also a recipient of an unrestricted educational grant from Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs, titled, Racial and ethnic disparities in pain treatment: converting research to policy.
