Beyond the Classroom
Global Community
In February, six students from the Nurse Anesthesia program and three faculty from Penn Nursing's CRNA program traveled to Honduras to provide anesthesia care. Working at the Sula Hospital in Santa Barbara, they provided life-saving care for over 70 patients during their stay. The students not only provided anesthesia care, but also ran the pre- and post-anesthesia units, organized the medical supply rooms, and scrubbed in to assist the surgeons.
The students presented a poster about their experiences at the Pennsylvania Association of Nurse Anesthetists Meeting in April.
Student Publications
Since 2005 many of our students have been published in the International Student Journal of Nurse Anesthesia. Our students develop manuscripts and are mentored throughout the editorial review process ultimately leading to publication.
Professional Activities
Penn students attend state meetings, legislative lobbing events, and national meetings including the American Association of Nurse Anesthetists Mid Year Assembly, the Assembly of School Faculty Meeting, and the Annual National Meeting with program faculty. Students also participate broadly in collegial activities for Nurse Anesthetists Week.
