Eileen Lake, University of Pennsylvania and member of the American Nurses Credentialing Center, spoke at a workshop on excellence in nursing at the Universidad Católica de Valencia. She stressed the power of magnet hospitals to provide superior care  for patients. "The mortality among patients older than 65 years at Magnet hospitals are reduced by 5%." Of the top 10 hospitals in the U.S., 7 are Magnet Hospitals.
