Docs1.gifThe Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research (CHOPR) offers an institutional pre- and post-doctoral fellowship training program for registered nurses funded by the National Institute for Nursing Research (T32 NR-07104). The fellowship provides advanced training in nursing outcomes research through a formal interdisciplinary program comprising the conceptual and empirical foundations, and the methodological approaches and statistical tools of outcomes research.

The program provides for a full complement of coursework and mentorship in research methodology, culminating in the development of skills and experience in research grant submission and peer-reviewed data-based publications. The program has a strong quantitative methods focus and prepares researchers in the use of administrative data, as well as, social survey techniques.
The full resources of the Center are available to trainees, including use of Center research databases. We have a data warehouse containing millions of patients’ hospital records and hundreds of thousands of nurse survey responses spanning several years from across the U.S. These data bases have supported our fellows to develop many successful grants and groundbreaking publications.

Funding is available on a yearly basis for four pre-doctoral candidates and four post-doctoral candidates. Applications are accepted for the fall of each year. Applications for doctoral study should be submitted to the relevant school or department and a letter of interest submitted to Dr. Linda Aiken. Information about application to the School’s doctoral program can be found at
Penn Nursing PhD Programs.
