Nancy seeks to further understand the relationship between physical and mental health through research. Currently, she uses a rodent model to study how metabolic changes associated with diabetes, a physical health problem, can produce alterations in the brain leading to depression, a mental health problem. She also works once a week as a Registered Nurse at the Clinical and Translational Research Unit at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania.

Health Equity Research

Her long-term goals are to participate in translational research and build a program of research that will promote integrated treatment of both body and mind in humans. Mental health conditions have historically been overlooked and stigmatized. She hopes her efforts will emphasis the importance of holistic treatment of both physical and mental health in tandem.
