On Friday, November 4, 2005 the Faculty Senate convened Youth and Aging: Penn Integrates Knowledge Locally and Globally, a symposium exploring new vistas in interdisciplinary research, integrative teaching, and Penn’s growing local and global engagements. Penn faculty from all twelve schools of the University provided a range of perspectives on being young and growing old in America and around the globe.

HCCNE's director and chair of The Faculty Senate, Dr. Neville Strumpf introduced the panel members and President Amy Gutmann spoke about Penn's commitment to the integration of knowledge, bringing together a wide range of practical and theoretical perspectives.

Youth in American Society

Dean Richard Gelles, the Joanne and Raymond Welsh Professor of Child Welfare and Family Violence in the School of Social Policy & Practice, moderated the first panel discussion on Youth in American Culture and Around the World. The participating panelists were:
