Professor Neville E. Strumpf
Distinguished Guest at Hong Kong
University

Neville Strumpf, PhD, RN, Edith Clemmer Steinbright Professor in Gerontology of the University of Pennsylvania visited the University of Hong Kong in February, 2004.


Dr. Strumpf represented Dean Afaf Meleis at the Signing Ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Department of Nursing Studies, The University of Hong Kong and the School of Nursing, University of Pennsylvania. Dr. Sophia Siu-Chee Chan, Head of Department of Nursing Studies, Faculty of Medicine, HKU also signed the agreement, which earmarks the collaboration between the two nursing institutions. The Collaboration Agreement includes: Faculty and Student Exchange, Sharing of Knowledge and Collaboration in Research. This agreement marked the establishment of the two institutions formal ties.


While in Hong Kong, Neville Strumpf was honored with the Grace Tien Visiting Professorship. Professor John Wong, Chair, Department of Surgery, School of Medicine, HKU and Dr. Sophia Chan, Head of Dept. of Nursing Studies, HKU, and Mrs. Mary Tien (white jacket), daughter-in-law of Mrs. Grace Tien for whom the lectureship is named, graciously welcomed their Penn Nursing guest. The Tien Family endowed the Grace Tien Visiting Professorship. Neville Strumpf was the first to receive this honor and to give the inaugural lecture. (See images below)

Dr. Strumpf also presented a lecture, "Shifting Policy and Practice in Acute Care" at the Medical and Health Research Network of HKU.
