GERO TIPS Online Learning. Penn Nursing's Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence (HCGNE) is pleased to introduce its newest educational resource: GERO T I P S Online. RESTRAINT FREE CARE IN NURSING HOMES: A Training Module
Restraint-Free Care in Nursing Homes. This free, self-paced online training module provides the basic information necessary to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate non-restraint interventions. The use of the Minimum Data Set (MDS) and other clinical assessment tools are also discussed.

Dr Sophia Siu-Chee Chan, Head of Department of Nursing Studies, Faculty of Medicine, HKU and Dr. Neville E Strumpf, Edith Clemmer Steinbright Professor in Gerontology of the University of Pennsylvania signed an agreement on February 24, 2004, which earmarks the collaboration between their two nursing institutions. Dr. Strumpf also gave two lectures at HKU.

Professional Meeting Reports


Dr. Eileen M. Sullivan-Marx is keynote speaker at the University of Connecticut's Distinguished Scholars Event. Her address, Enhancing Outcomes of Care for Vulnerable Older Adults, introduces contemporary policy issues and documents the need to address gerontology research globally. She also reports on outcomes and health service research related to organizational and clinical factors affecting frail older adults.

Arlene Houldin, PhD and Joanne Reifsnyder, PhD, RN, AOCN presented a poster and participated in a panel discussion on "Palliative Care/Geriatric Nursing Education: Model Curriculum" at American Association of Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Master's Education Conference, Contrasts and Decision Points: Models for Innovative Master's Education, Amelia Island, Florida.
