Biographical
Sketch
Dr.
Ivo Abraham is adjunct professor of the School
of Nursing. Most
recently, he spent five years heading up an international
consulting and research company which specialized in
developing and implementing large-scale studies on
practice patterns and outcomes, evidence-based practice
improvement, and clinical guideline development and
evaluation for pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies,
as well as data management, analysis, and reporting
operations for healthcare benchmarking services. Dr.
Abraham’s research continues to focus on analyzing
the interaction between variability in practice patterns
and patient outcomes across diverse health and disease
states, however without abandoning his clinical research
interests in geropsychiatric nursing and the long-term
mentally ill. He offers guest lectures and seminars
at all levels of education and across programs.
At
Penn he is associated with the Centers for Health Outcomes
and Policy Research, the Center for Gerontologic Nursing
Science, the Hartford Center of Geriatric Nursing Excellence,
the Institute of Aging, and the Leonard Davis Institute
of Health Economics.
Dr
Abraham served a 4-year term as a charter member of
the Nursing Research Study Section at the NIH when
it was first established in 1987. He also served as
a member of the NIMH geriatric mental health study
section (1994-1997), as well as several ad hoc review
committees. He was a charter member of the JCAHO Council
on Performance Management, Secretary of Health Level
7 (HL-7) in its initial years as it grew towards recognition
as an ANSI-accredited Standards Developing Organization,
and on various government and corporate advisory boards
in the USA and Europe. A native of Belgium, he has
lectured, done research and/or consulted on every continent. |
