Biographical
Sketch
Dr.
Beth Ann Swan is Associate Director of the Office
of International Programs for the School
of
Nursing. Dr. Swan has held several positions with the University of Pennsylvania,
at HUP and the School of Nursing. Most recently she held a Postdoctoral Fellowship
from the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the Campbell Collaboration with the
goal of learning international systematic review processes. She also participated
in the development of a National Science Foundation proposal to create an international
digital library (IDL) and test its application with evidence in global health.
Currently,
she is a member of the WHO Primary Review Panel, Strengthening
the Evidence Base on Effective Nursing and Midwifery
Services: A Preliminary Global Framework and serves as
the Project Director to develop the WHO e-Community,
a worldwide discussion forum, for systematically reviewing
the evidence for nursing and midwifery services and identifying
evidenced-based practices in collaboration with WHO Nursing
Collaborating Center representatives. This virtual evidence
based center is one of the terms of reference for the
Penn's School of Nursing WHO Collaborating Center for
Nursing and Midwifery Leadership.
Dr.
Swan is Secretary and Board Member of the American Academy
of Ambulatory Care Nursing (AAACN). She is the P.I. for
a Specialty Nursing Association Partners in Geriatric
Implementation Grant, The Atlantic Philanthropies (USA)
Inc. Nurse Competence in Aging. Beth Ann received the
1996 New Investigator Award from the American Academy
of Ambulatory Care Nursing. She was honored for her community
service with the 1998 Community Service Award, F.J. Myers
TOTS Program and the 1998 Community Service Award, F.J.
Myers Youth Access Center Advisory Council. Dr. Swan
was a mentor with the Helene Fuld Trust Fellowship Program,
New York University. In 2002, she received the Outstanding
Alumni Award for Leadership in Nursing from the University
of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.
