Dr.
Sarah Kagan's
Gero-Oncology
Student Group

|
 |
The
Gero-Oncology Seminar began
serendipitously, arising out of Sarah
Kagan's own clinical and research interests in care of older
adults who have cancer.
As
Dr. Kagan's projects grew in size and number, more students
got involved and the group grew naturally into one that needed
its own time for scholarly dialogue.
 |
|
A
dedicated group of about 16 undergraduate, master's and
Ph.D. students are now regular participants in the gero-oncology
seminars; they also invite other colleagues who might
be interested in the subject matter.

A core group of six students who are actively working
on Dr. Kagan's program of research often generate topics
for discussion, including critiques of current research
reports, screening movies and other media on aging and
cancer.
The
group is also a place for continued dialogue on the
research projects in gero-oncology nursing that are
on-going within international conferences.

Some of these gero-oncology students have successfully
submitted abstracts from those projects for presentation
at national and international conferences.
The
next conference that members of the seminar group will
attend is the
12th Biennial Conference of the International Society
of Nursing in Cancer Care to held this August in
London.
