PENN Nursing has a new and exciting initiative to expand your knowledge base and enhance your professional growth. Earn a certificate of completion in a continuing nursing education “Specialty.” Completion of these continuing nursing education programs will provide you a broader preparation and flexibility in your choice of career opportunities.
To earn a Continuing Nursing Education Certificate the required courses in each program must be successfully completed.
Options:
To attain a continuing education certificate of completion all required courses must be successfully completed in the “Specialty,” however individual course can be taken as desired for continuing nursing education credit but will not receive a course certificate.
Costs: Single course $899 / two courses $1,599 (save $199) three courses $2,299 (save $398.) Discount only applies if you register for multiple courses at the same time.
Continuing Nursing Education Certificate: Forensic Nursing
NUCE531 - Forensic Mental Health
Forensic mental health is the interface between the law and mental health. This course examines the components of human behavior that bring people into a judicial setting. Content will cover: forensic interview, role of the forensic psychiatrist and psychologist, and addictions as they relate to criminal activity. Domestic violence offenders, sex offenders, stalkers, and professionals who commit homicide will be discussed. Definitions and dynamics of criminal motherhood and violent school children will be presented. The course also offers a field experience in which offenders of various crimes are interviewed by students.

NUCE533 - Victimology
This course examines the wide range of victimization experiences from the perspective of the victim, their families and society. Crimes to be studied include workplace violence, corporate crime, robbery, burglary, assault, rape, stalking, domestic violence, homicide, suicide, elderly abuse and child sexual abuse and exploitation. The role of the medical examiner, health care providers and the FBI as they relate to victims of crime will be discussed. Emphasis will be given to exploring the elements of each crime and response patterns to victimizations. Services available to victims of crime will be discussed.

NUCE534 - Forensic Science I
The interface of law and health care produces a medicolegal or forensic case. This course examines cases where there has been a death and cases where there is a survivor and in which there is a legal component. Specifically, the course uses a case method format on issues including forensic pathology, clinical forensics, crime victims, equivocal death, and principles of death notification.
