Alumni Dear Penn Nursing Alumni,
One hundred and twenty-five years ago - one year before the founding of the National Institutes of Health, several years before the discovery of penicillin and even longer before the establishment of Medicare - the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania was breaking boundaries in nursing education. Since the creation of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania Training School for Nurses in 1886, one of the first formal nursing education programs in the country, nursing at Penn has been home to dedicated healthcare professionals, innovative scientists and inspiring leaders.
As a graduate from programs at both the HUP School and the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, I know first-hand that critical thinking, patient advocacy, compassionate care and a zest for discovery are part of every alumnus who came to learn the science of nursing in West Philadelphia.
As we celebrate the rich and diverse history of our alma mater, I hope that you will access this website to read about the latest innovations and adventures of your classmates, keep in touch through our networking resources, discover how you can get involved, and stay up-to-date on the special events that will highlight this incredible 125th anniversary year. And, be sure to take a look at our new 125th website dedicated to sharing our joint history.
Thank you for being one of our more than 14,000 alumni who has continued the 125-year tradition of Care to Change the World!
Sincerely,
Candace Pfeffer Stiklorius, HUP'66, Nu'71, GNu'83
