Post-master's Application Requirements
Penn Nursing offers post-master’s certificates to MSN-prepared nurses seeking to further advance their careers and clinical practice. Post-master’s applicants must meet all MSN application requirements.
All master’s students are required to have a Pennsylvania Registered Nursing License prior to beginning clinical rotations. If you do not have a Pennsylvania license but you are licensed to practice in another country, you must complete the CGFNS Certification Program. Penn Nursing needs proof you have at least passed the CGFNS Qualifying Examination prior to reviewing your admissions application.
For more information the Pennsylvania State Board of Nursing website for details. If you are completing the NCLEX® in another state, please review the requirements to obtain a Pennsylvania Registered Nursing License. See Item 6: Licensure by Endorsement With Temporary Practice Permit.
C. Gap Analysis
Once your application is complete the program faculty will conduct a preliminary analysis of previously completed course work and if admitted a DRAFT plan of study will be generated. Upon acceptance of your admission offer, candidates must submit a $300.00 fee so a formal gap analysis can be conducted. Syllabi and course calendars for each of the courses preliminarily considered transferrable must be submitted. A thorough curriculum review will be conducted resulting in development of a final plan of study and formalization of the gap analysis. The gap analysis is a requirement when submitting your application for certification.
NOTE: Individuals seeking to complete an MSN minor as a certificate are exempt from the gap analysis.
D. Standardized Testing
Applicants who have previously graduated from a master’s program in nursing are not required to submit GRE scores.
Tuition for post-master's students is based upon graduate tuition rates. Please visit the School of Nursing's financial aid web page for more information.
