Financial
consideration should not be a factor in determining whether or not
a student attends the University of Pennsylvania. Every potential student
is encouraged to fill out a financial aid package prior to the respective
deadline. The University's Student
Financial Services Office along with the School
of Nursing Financial Aid Office are here to assist students in
pursuing resources for assisting with college tuition. When applying for
financial aid the student should be aware of the following:
-
Financial aid awards are
usually made up of grants and/or loans. To be eligible for financial
aid you must meet a number of requirements. We will work with you to
insure that you are aware of all the options available to you to
finance your education.
-
Demonstrating need:
A student's financial need is the difference between the student's cost
of attendance at the school and the amount the family can be expected to
contribute to the student's education. Financial aid administrators
determine the expected contribution by collecting information about the
family's income and assets, and compare these figures with the family's
expenses/indebtedness.
-
Sources of Aid:
The major student aid programs administered to help students meet the
cost of post secondary education are grants that do not
have to be repaid, loans that enable the students to
borrow money to help meet educational costs - Federal Perkins, Federal
Stafford (GSL), Federal Nursing, and Federal Work-Study (W/S) that
provides part-time jobs.
While the University works
to meet the financial need of all students, it may be beneficial for the
student to pursue aid from outside sources. However, the student should
take note and be aware to avoid search services and financial aid
consultants which charge a fee for their services . These services are
usually expensive and do not guarantee results. It is most beneficial for
the student to spend time in the local library or on the internet to yield
results. The following list of information divided by ethnic group will
assist the student in obtaining financial resources:
