Joint Degree Options
Master of Science in Nursing and PhD in Nursing
The MSN/PhD program allows students to complete one of our seventeen master’s programs in conjunction with the doctoral program. MSN/PhD applicants must submit separate applications to the MSN and PhD programs, and have their completed applications by November 1st in order to receive their Master's decision prior to the start of the Doctoral application review process in January.
Master of Science and PhD in Nursing
This program is designed for students who wish to enter directly into a PhD program from their baccalaureate program. The MS/PhD program offers students the opportunity to plan an academic trajectory culminating in the doctorate in a manner tailored to the student’s career goals. PhD in Nursing and Master’s in Bioethics
The PhD in Nursing/Master of Bioethics program (PhD/MBE) is designed to provide its graduates with the interdisciplinary training they will need in order to provide clinical, research, and policy leadership regarding ethical issues in health care today and in the future. The School of Medicine and the Center for Bioethics offers the Master’s in Bioethics in conjunction with the School of Nursing. Students who wish to apply to both the nursing PhD program and the MBE program concurrently must file separate applications for both degree programs. Click here for more information on MBE program.
PhD in Nursing and Masters of Business Administration
The dual degree Doctor of Philosophy in Nursing and the Master of Business Administration (PhD/MBA) joins the resources of the School of Nursing and the University’s Health Care Management Program at The Wharton School. Emphasis is placed on the synthesis and integration of nursing and management knowledge, skills, techniques, and values. Graduates of these programs assume nurse administrative roles and executive positions in a variety of health care organizations.
