Information for International Applicants

In addition to all required application materials, international applicants to the doctoral program must submit the following items:

  • Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended to obtain the BSN and MSN degree (if applicable)
  • World Education Services (www.wes.org) or Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools(www.cgfns.org) evaluation of all transcripts
  • Results from the TOEFL (www.toefl.org) or IELTS (www.ielts.org) taken within the last two years for all non-native English speakers

We require a minimum score of 100 on the Internet-based TOEFL exam and a minimum combined score of 7.0 for the IELTS.

International applicants who have been accepted to the PhD program must attend The University of Pennsylvania's Summer English Language Program for International Teaching Assistants.  The cost of this program is to be paid by the student and will entail temporary housing.  Students will be expected to pass a language proficiency examination upon the conclusion of this course (if not passed prior to admission).  More information regarding English Language Programs (ELP) can be found here.

International applicants are encouraged to contact the University of Pennsylvania’s Office of International Programs for services for international students and scholars.
