Accelerated Programs-for BSN/MSN, Second Degree & RN Return

Bachelor of Science in Nursing & Master's of Science in Nursing (BSN/MSN Direct Entry Program)
The BSN/MSN accelerated option is for registered nurses, as well as, students already holding a bachelor's degree in another field. Students apply concurrently for admissions to the undergraduate program and to one of the School's graduate program offerings. The program is individualized according to the past educational experience of the student. Courses completed at other institutions or higher education will be evaluated for transfer credit.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing - Second Degree Students
Penn offers a program allowing students with a bachelor’s degree in another area to complete a BSN. The second degree program builds on an individual’s education to date. Liberal Arts requirements are waived, requiring students to complete only the nursing courses. Other course work relevant to the program will be evaluated for transfer credit. Program adaptability makes it possible for second degree students to complete the BSN efficiently and to begin their nursing careers as soon as possible.

Bachelor of Science in Nursing - RN Return Students
The RN return program is designed to educate hospital diploma and associate degree RNs for an increased leadership role in nursing through the earning of a BSN. RN applicants must have a minimum of eight transferable college courses completed at another institution. Appropriate college and university course work is evaluated for transfer credit. Also, Regents College examinations will be evaluated for credit toward required clinical coursework. Length of the program varies according to the number of transferable credits and the number of clinical courses successfully challenged. The RN program enables individuals to focus more specifically on educational needs while giving consideration to past academic work.

It is necessary for all applicants to meet with a representative from the School of Nursing's Office of Admissions for a consultation concerning curriculum planning and length of study. Length of program varies according to the number of transferable credits. Students may apply for January or September entrance.

All students interested in Accelerated Programs should arrange an interview with a School of Nursing admissions counselor to explore curricular options tailored to individual needs and goals.
