Doctoral Studies at Penn Nursing
Why a Doctorate?

You have provided excellent care for your patients and you have helped improve the health care systems in which you work. Now you want more. The World Bank¹ estimates that health conditions around the world have improved more in the past forty years than in all previous human history. This tremendous worldwide change in health means that nurses and other health professionals have a greater need than ever for new information. You want to help provide that information.

Perhaps you see a future in academia or as a clinical researcher in a health care setting. Perhaps you wish to join the doctorally prepared nurses who are revolutionizing industry. Careers as a researcher take place in many different arenas but all have in common the joy of being able to develop the knowledge necessary to improve the health of the citizens of the world.
