Doctoral and Post-Doctoral Programs
The mission of the doctoral program of
the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing is to prepare nurse scientists
for successful careers particularly in research intensive environments.
Penn Nursing Science distinguishes our doctoral program from other schools of
nursing because you graduate rigorously prepared to create,
test, and implement ideas that will improve health care; change health and
delivery systems; and determine the future of the profession. Take a look at
what Penn Nursing can offer you!
The Ph.D. program can be constructed from either the baccalaureate or the
master’s degree. Applicants with a master’s degree in nursing can satisfy the
requirements for the Ph.D. degree by attaining an overall average of 3.0 in 13
course units beyond the master’s, successfully completing qualifying and
preliminary examinations, and proposal and dissertation defenses. Applicants
holding a masters degree in a related discipline will be considered on an
individual basis.
Joint Programs:
Ph.D. in Nursing and a Masters in Bioethics
Ph.D. in Nursing and an MBA from Wharton
