Pre- and Post-Doctoral Fellowships in Nursing Outcomes Research

Goals
The Center for Health Outcomes & Policy Research provides advanced training in nursing outcomes research through a formal interdisciplinary program of pre-doctoral and post-doctoral study comprising the conceptual and empirical foundations and the methodologic approaches and statistical tools of advanced outcomes research. The program provides for the full complement of coursework and mentorship in research methodology, culminating in the development of skills and experience in research grant submission and peer-reviewed data-based publications. Funding is available for three pre-doctoral students and four post-doctoral fellows through a National Institute of Nursing, NIH, Institutional NRSA award.

Philosophy
The program brings together research faculty from the Center for Health Outcomes and Policy Research and the Center for Urban Health Research within the School of Nursing, as well as a broad array of faculty throughout the University of Pennsylvania. The program has a strong quantitative methods focus and prepares researchers in the use of administrative data as well as social survey techniques. The full resources of the Center are available to trainees including use of Center research databases.
