Each year freshmen are required to read a book that is selected school-wide. For the 2011-2012 Penn Reading Project, “Reality is Broken” by Jane McGonigal was selected and launched the Penn Year of Games and within Penn Nursing the Game Solutions for Healthcare. Game Solutions for Healthcare offers undergraduate and graduate students, staff, and faculty or teams the opportunity to work together to build new tools and applications that are solutions to specific healthcare problems. The aim of the project is to further stimulate the interconnectivity between healthcare science, research and practice cultures. Prizes for the best solution to specific problems, or to the most innovative application are awarded. Game Solutions for Healthcare will become a staple within Penn Nursing after the 2012 academic year because of its value in innovation and interprofessional collaboration between students, faculty, and staff at the University of Pennsylvania.
