Administration Programs

Overview

BSN/MSN
The BSN/MSN Program is an accelerated undergraduate Nursing program (BSN) leading to the traditional Graduate Program (MSN), resulting in a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and a Master of Science in Nursing. All BSN/MSN applicants must indicate ONE-desired Master's specialty in the application.

Interdisciplinary Programs:

MSN Nursing and Health Care Administration

The Nursing and Health Care Program draws upon the strengths of a top ranked School of Nursing and the top ranked Wharton School of Business. The MSN in Nursing and Health Care Administration integrates concepts and principles from 10 courses in nursing administration and 6 courses in business.

The program is broad in scope, emphasizing administration in diverse health care settings. The interdisciplinary program enables students to select from a wide range of course offerings to design a business minor that best serves their career interests. Students may specialize in operations management, health care finance, informatics, or consulting, entrepreneurship, or pharmaceuticals.

Successful completion of this program qualifies graduates to apply for national certification in Nursing Administration from American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).

MSN Health Leadership

The Health Leadership Masters Program is designed with flexibility to enable students to attain their individual professional goals and interests through an interdisciplinary curriculum. The Program requires five core courses in the development of leadership and decision-making skills, the historical and theoretical foundations of the discipline of nursing, research methodology, and the analysis of the health policy and health systems.

Five additional self-selected courses reflect the student's specific area of interest. Students design their interdisciplinary curriculum with expert faculty in the School of Nursing and the University at large to meet individualized professional goals. For example, students may elect to take course work throughout the University in Bioethics, Informatics, Communications, Business, Engineering, Epidemiology, and Biostatistics.

Finally, students have the opportunity to take two elective courses to strengthen their background in order to meet career goals.

MSN Nursing Administration/Occupational Health Option

Faced with rising health care costs, employers are turning to occupational interdisciplinary health professionals to provide cost effective strategies to manage employee health care. In this option students receive a strong foundation in occupational health (5 course units), health care administration (6 course units), research and health policy (2 course units), and business (2 course units). Graduates meet the academic requirement for the national certification in Occupational Health Nursing.

MSN/MBA Dual Degree

The dual degree option from the School of Nursing and the Wharton School offers an outstanding educational opportunity. Students interested in this program of study must apply and be accepted by both the School of Nursing and the Wharton School. Separate applications to each school plus GRE's (Nursing) and GMAT's (Wharton) are required. Students tend to apply to Nursing first and complete one semester before applying to the Wharton School's Health Care Department. Full time study is required for the Wharton portion of this degree. The MSN/MBA can be completed in 36 months of full time study.

Minor or Post Masters Certificate:

Minor in Nursing and Health Care Administration

Individuals accepted in another graduate program, may take additional coursework and complete an administration minor. This 5 course (6CUs) concentration can be pursued simultaneously with your clinical program. The additional business preparation affords the Clinician greater flexibility and choice of career opportunities.

Health Leadership Minor

Expert nurses are assuming numerous leadership roles that require new leadership skills. This 4 course option is for students who are participating in other graduate programs and wish to develop an expanded-knowledge base and skill level related leadership.

Minor in Health Informatics

This option consists of three course sequence focusing on concepts and issues surrounding technology and information management.

Post-Masters Certificate in Nursing and Health Care Administration

This option is designed for individuals who already possess a Masters degree and are interested in extending their knowledge and skill in Administration, Leadership, or Informatics. Those entering positions with greater management responsibilities find these Programs invaluable.
