9:00 -12:00 The half day workshop will review the Quality and Safety competencies for pre-licensure and graduate nursing programs and report on the experiences of schools who have implemented the competencies into their pre-licensure program. Speakers will address resources available to assist faculty in implementing quality improvement and patient safety science in classroom, learning laboratories and in clinical experiences.
Content will include review and discussion of:
- Quality and Safety Education in Nursing (QSEN) Competencies
- Understanding and Applying Principles of Quality and Safety
- Integrating the QSEN Competencies into the Curriculum: Classroom, Laboratory, and Clinical Applications
- Disseminating the QSEN Competencies to Advance Best Practice

The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing presents the 6th National Patient Safety Conference. The aim of this year’s conference is to examine the link between disruptive behavior and patient safety. Presentations and discussions will focus on dissemination of evidence-based practices to assist health care providers and organizations to develop and implement successful and innovative strategies for addressing intimidating and disruptive behavior and that promote a collaborative work environment. The conference will provide a forum for health care professionals to exchange experiences and research related to health work environments, quality and patient safety. Poster sessions are intended to highlight the use of cutting edge patient safety models as they support the National Patient Safety Goals.

- Pre-conference registration fee is $69. Fee includes registration, continental breakfast, program materials, and nursing contact hour credits
- Conference registration fee is $229.00. Fee includes registration, program materials, nursing credits and poster session & reception on Thursday 10/15/2009and continental breakfast on lunch on Friday 10/16/2009.
- Early registration ensures attendance in the program. Day of registrants will be accepted only if space permits. A $25 fee will be assessed for return checks and credit card rejections.
Disability: If you need special accommodations due to disability, a 2-week notification would be appreciated.
Individual Discounts: A 15% discount is offered to SON Faculty, Alumni, Full-time Students & the University of Pennsylvania Health System, The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and the Veterans Affairs Medical Center of Philadelphia. Only one (1) discount per person/per registration.
Group Discount: A 15% discount is available for three or more participants (each) from the same institution registering at the same time.
Cancellations: Notification must be received in writing one week prior to a program for a full refund. Cancellations within the week will be assessed a $ 50 fee. Refunds will not be issued 48 hours prior to a program or once the program has begun.
Program cancellation & Substitutions: We reserve the right to cancel a program/course if low enrollment or circumstances beyond our control hinders its success. In the event of a cancellation, all registered participants would be notified and a full refund would be issued. Although rarely necessary, we reserve the right to substitute faculty if needed.
Taping & Duplicating Handouts: Audio and/or Video taping of CE programs/courses, as well as copying speaker handouts are prohibited.
