Admissions Requirements

The application deadline for the September start date is December 1 of the previous year.  Applicants interested in the MS/PhD or MSN/PhD must submit their completed applications by September 1. The Graduate Admission Committee can not properly evaluate a candidate nor offer an interview until the all required application items have been received. A completed application would include the following documents:  

  1.  $70 application fee
  2. Completed application accessible at www.nursing.upenn.edu/admissions
  3. Response to 4 doctoral essay questions
  4. 3 letters of recommendation from an academic, employer and professional source
  5. Official transcripts from all colleges and universities attended
  6. Official results from the GRE exam taken within the last 5 years
  7. Official results from the TOEFL or IELTS exam taken within the last 2 years (for non-native English speaking applicants only)
  8. Copy of official RN license(s)

A competitive PhD candidate has minimum GRE scores of 500 in both verbal and quantitative and 4.0 in analytical writing.  Applicants holding a degree in a non-nursing related discipline will be considered on an individual basis.
